Questions & Answers

What is the difference between a Nun and a Sister?

Nuns are cloistered. They reside, pray and work within the confines of a monastery. Sisters embrace ministries that take them out into the world to serve the needs of God’s people and are known as apostolic religious.

What kinds of ministries do the Sisters do?

As Sisters of the Most Precious Blood, we serve in parish ministry, pastoral care, spiritual direction, counseling, care of the elderly, education, health care, administration, ecclesiastical and fine arts, food pantries, a spirituality center and advocacy for the poor and disadvantaged.

What is discernment?

Discernment in everyday life is a matter of regular reflection on daily events within a framework of prayer in order to see where the Spirit is leading and to follow that lead. Discernment with respect to a major decision, such as a life vocation, is often a more prolonged and carefully structured process when a spiritual director is most helpful. (David Lonsdale, S.J.)

What is a charism?

A charism is a particular way of living out the Gospel message. It is a “way of being with God in the world.” Charism is a special gift given by the Holy Spirit not only for the individual but also more especially for the sake of a group of persons. Our special way of living out the Gospel message is to “be a reconciling presence” in the world.

Where are the Sisters located?

The Sisters of the Most Precious Blood are located mainly in the United States with some Sisters in Europe, including Finland, Estonia and Rome as well as Bolivia and Peru in South America.

Do you wear a habit?

We do not wear a habit. We wear a distinctive community cross and ring, which identify us as Sisters of the Most Precious Blood.
