The Call
How do you know if God is calling you to religious life?
Each vocation is a mystery that is lived with faith and trust in the faithfulness of God. One thing we know: God’s desires for us are the same as our deepest desires. God does not call us to a way of life that is contrary to our deepest longings. If we believe God has a plan for us, we undertake the serious discernment needed to discover that path. Whatever path we choose, God is faithful.
A call to religious life as a Sister of the Most Precious Blood is an invitation to “follow Jesus who in His love for us reconciled us to [God] through his Precious Blood.” (Constitutions No. 23) The Sisters of the Most Precious Blood of O’Fallon, Missouri, have been entrusted with the charism of reconciliation. We share in God’s mission of reconciliation by being a reconciling presence in the world wherever we are.
Frederick Buechner, American writer and theologian, says it well: Vocation is the place where your deep gladness meets the world’s deep need.
“It was not you who chose me; it was I who chose you.” (John 15:16)
